Whey protein vs isolate: what's actually different?
Whey concentrate is around 70–80% protein by weight and keeps more of the milk sugar and fat. Whey isolate is filtered further to roughly 90% protein, with most of the lactose and fat removed. Both build muscle the same way — the difference is what rides along with the protein.
Side by side
Protein per scoop: isolate is higher, typically by a few grams for the same serving size.
Lactose and fat: concentrate keeps noticeably more of both. If whey has ever left you bloated, that is usually the reason.
Price: concentrate costs less. Isolate costs more because filtering costs more.
Which one should you buy?
Choose isolate if you are sensitive to dairy, are watching calories closely, or simply want the cleanest possible protein line on your daily total.
Choose concentrate if budget per gram of protein is the deciding factor and dairy does not bother you.
For muscle growth, total daily protein matters far more than which of the two you pick.
